LG Electronics and Apple announced seven smart home accessories co-developed for the Apple Home Collection: three cameras, a video doorbell, a smart lock, a smart thermostat, and a temperature sensor. The lineup reaches the United States and Canada starting in December, with select accessories following early next year, while the cameras and video doorbell head to the United Kingdom in December.

Three cameras with built-in intelligence

The indoor and outdoor cameras share up to 2.5K video resolution, low-light color night vision, and wide-angle coverage. Intelligence recognizes people, pets, vehicles, and motion to keep alerts relevant, and users can block selected areas from view and recording. Built-in local storage gives users more control over how recorded footage is stored and reviewed.

The LG Indoor Cam Plug-In covers a 160-degree field of view and adds a privacy tilt mechanism with physical controls that provide a visible way to control monitoring when it is not needed. The LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In concentrates on 2.5K resolution and low-light color night vision. The LG Floodlight Cam adds dual adaptive floodlights that light up the surrounding area when activity is detected.

A doorbell with two cameras

The LG Video Doorbell Wired pairs a 2.5K front camera with a Full HD bottom camera, giving separate views of visitors, packages, and the area around the entryway. It identifies people, vehicles, pets, and packages, and can play a chime through Apple HomeView, HomePod, or HomePod mini. Low-light color night vision and two-way talk cover the rest.

A lock that opens hands-free

The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock unlocks hands-free with a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, using Ultra-Wideband to recognize an authorized user’s location and movement. NFC tap, a PIN code, and a physical key provide fallbacks, and built-in door sensing with real-time app notifications tracks door status and security events.

A thermostat that adapts to home, away, and sleep

The LG Smart Thermostat uses Adaptive Temperature from Apple to adjust heating and cooling based on whether a user is heading home, away from home, or sleeping. Optional LG Temperature Sensor devices placed in other rooms let the system monitor temperature and humidity across multiple spaces, with sensing algorithms designed to reduce measurement errors and catch indoor temperature changes in real time. Matter over Thread provides the low-power connection.

In the United States, Clean Energy Guidance from Apple can help optimize energy use based on grid carbon intensity, and supported utility-provider integrations can let the thermostat shift operation toward lower-cost periods.

Apple Home Collection: Built together, controlled together

LG and Apple worked on the Apple Home Collection products from the early planning stage across hardware, software, and the user experience, rather than linking separate devices through a platform. Siri or the Home app can run one “Good Morning” scene that adjusts the thermostat and tilts an indoor camera down while the user gets ready. Each Apple Home Collection accessory is end-to-end encrypted in the Home app, and camera footage and personal data cannot be accessed by LG or Apple.

“Creating a truly connected home requires products that work seamlessly together,” said Kihyun Jung, head of the Platform Business Center at the LG Home Appliance Solution Company. “By bringing LG’s expertise in home appliances and the home environment together with the Apple Home, we are creating intuitive, integrated experiences that fit naturally into customers’ daily lives.”

“Apple has always focused on making products and experiences that are seamless and intuitive, and protect our users’ privacy — and that matters more than ever in the home,” said Matthew Costello, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “Combining our hardware and software expertise with LG’s deep understanding of the home and connected living lets us build smart home experiences that are simpler to set up, are easier to control, and work effortlessly.”

What you need to run them

The accessories require an Apple home hub, such as HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, or Apple HomeView, along with a Wi-Fi connection, and they work with the Apple Home and LG ThinQ apps.
