Apple‘s second product announcement of the month lands on Wednesday, October 28, under the name “Pro and Tell”. The “Pro” in the name points to a new MacBook Pro, possibly joined by other new Macs and even a new iPad.
An OLED MacBook Pro with a touchscreen
The high-end MacBook Pro models are expected to bring two firsts to the Mac line: OLED display technology and a touchscreen. macOS 27 is reportedly being updated for touch gestures, and touch would sit alongside the trackpad and keyboard as a supplementary option rather than a replacement.
Apple is also said to be reinforcing the hinge so the display stays steady when tapped, and to be making the notebook lighter than the current model without changing the 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. A Dynamic Island would replace the notch, and OLED screens are expected on both sizes.
Same chips, higher price
The OLED MacBook Pro is not expected to bring new silicon. Apple is reportedly skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max, and the M7 Pro and M7 Max are not expected until late 2027, so the new models would use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as the versions introduced in March.
Apple may also keep selling the current MacBook Pro models alongside the OLED versions, which would sit above them as a more expensive option. OLED panels and touch modules both add cost, so the new models are likely to be priced higher than the current lineup. Earlier rumours suggested Apple would call the OLED machine the MacBook Ultra, but the company is reportedly sticking with Pro.
M6 for the entry-level MacBook Pro and the iMac
The 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro is expected to move to an M6 chip, replacing the M5 it received in October 2025, with no other design changes. The 24-inch iMac is also expected to get an M6 chip, again without external changes.
iPad mini 8 moves to OLED
An iPad mini update is also expected. The iPad mini 8 would be the first iPad outside the Pro line to use an OLED display. It is also said to adopt a design refresh built around a vibration-based speaker setup that removes the speaker holes, which would allow for a more water-resistant build. It could be the first iPad with an IP rating, able to handle splashes and possibly submersion.
The tablet is expected to use the A20 Pro chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro models. It is not yet clear whether the iPad mini will keep a 60Hz refresh rate or move to 120Hz ProMotion, and the front camera is reported to shift from the portrait side to the landscape side, matching changes Apple has made on other iPads. Water resistance and OLED are expected to raise the price, with the new model possibly costing around $200 more than the current $599.
This is Apple’s second event this month. The October 13 event saw the launch of the HomePod mini 2, New Apple TV 4K, HomeView, and more.
