Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is on track to boost its production capacity. According to recent research from Trendforce and Counterpoint Research, CXMT’s monthly output of DRAM wafers is projected to nearly double by 2028.

CXMT to Double DRAM Production by 2028

The DRAM industry is currently experiencing a supply shortage as major players like Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron pivot their focus toward producing High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) chips. HBM chips are essential for the growing AI sector but require a more complex manufacturing process than standard DRAM.

With the tech giants prioritizing HBM, CXMT sees an opportunity in the general-purpose DRAM market, which primarily serves the consumer electronics sector. Currently producing an estimated 320,000 wafers per month, CXMT is expected to add over 100,000 wafers to its monthly capacity within the next year.

How will it unfold?

This expansion is forecast to continue, with research indicating a 31% increase in production capacity by next year and an 87.5% jump by 2028, aiming for an output of 600,000 wafers per month. A new plant planned for Beijing is expected to be central to this rapid growth.

The manufacturer’s increased output will provide a crucial supply line for consumer electronics companies bottlenecked by the current memory shortage. Apple is reportedly considering procuring memory chips from the Chinese manufacturer for its products sold in China. However, reports suggest the manufacturer is leveraging the current market conditions, holding firm on pricing and refusing Apple’s requests for discounts, quoting prices on par with or even exceeding those of established memory giants.
