Reports coming from China claim that OPPO has merged realme and OnePlus internally into a sub-series business unit.

This comes after it was previously reported that OPPO has reinstated realme as its official sub-brand.

OPPO – realme and OnePlus Internal Merger

The new business unit will allegedly be led by realme CEO Sky Li and backed by realme’s CMO Xu Qi. This makes them in charge of marketing and service systems for both OnePlus and realme.

Meanwhile, a dedicated product center will have a separate domestic and overseas team. This will be headed by Li Jie, OnePlus China President, but will report to Pete Lau, co-founder of OnePlus.

Reports also mention that the research and development team of realme is being folded back into OPPO. This means the imaging, hardware, and other technical departments will now be fully part of OPPO again.

In China, the after-sales service has been handled by OPPO since April 1.

As of writing this, it is uncertain how this affects the two sub-brands and how it will make the devices of the three entities distinct from each other. It seems, though, that OPPO looks to be aiming for a more efficient system with fewer silos and shared resources.
