FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is now available. The Final Fantasy Resonance launch brings the first HD-2D game in the FINAL FANTASY series to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Xbox on PC.

Square Enix released the game today, October 22, 2026, and the Steam version follows on October 23, 2026. The publisher notes that store availability and release times can vary by region, so buyers should check their local regional store for the exact hour their copy unlocks.

The release closes a promotional run that began in June, when Square Enix confirmed the October 22 date alongside pre-orders. It continued through Tokyo Game Show 2026, where the publisher shared a new trailer for the title without a platform list or a release window attached.

A free demo carries its save data into the full game

Square Enix is keeping the free demo live on every launch platform, and save data from it carries over to the full release.

The demo covers the opening chapter of the story, set in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, and gives players a few hours with the party and the battle system before they spend anything on the game.

That structure matters for a turn-based RPG, because the combat system is the part that either lands or does not. Anyone who played the demo on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam or Xbox on PC can continue from the same point rather than starting over.

What the first HD-2D Final Fantasy plays like

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is a turn-based RPG built around exploiting enemy weaknesses. Landing the right damage staggers an enemy and breaks its defenses, which hands the party extra turns and opens the window for Resonance attacks that hit considerably harder than a normal round of commands.

Square Enix frames the presentation as an answer to a simple question, what the series might look like if it had kept pushing pixel art instead of leaving it behind.

The result is a hybrid the publisher calls cinematic pixel art, with dynamic camera angles and pixelized 3D models carrying scenes that a flat 2D layer could not stage.

The game returns to the series’ older vocabulary. Airships, crystals, espers and moogles all feature in the story, and Visions, described as echoes of FINAL FANTASY characters, fight alongside the party.

Square Enix names Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light among them, and each Vision carries its own skills for party customization.

Side content is substantial. The wandering swordmaster Gilgamesh appears in the world, a Colosseum offers monsters and rewards, the Chamber of Arms seals formidable foes inside legendary weapons, and one optional encounter pits the party against Ultima Weapon.

Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Editions

Two paid editions sit above the standard release. The Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with the Magitek and Grimoire Deluxe Pack, which includes a Magitek Armor Key that gives the chocobo a magitek armor appearance.

It also adds the Archwitch’s Grimoire that unlocks a specific character’s Fel Meteor Limit Burst, and a set of starter items. The Collector’s Edition is physical.

It pairs a standard edition copy with a goods box holding an acrylic block set, a pixel art book, an original soundtrack album of 120 tracks, and an exclusive FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME promotional card.

Square Enix states that bonus content and specifications can change without prior notice, and that the physical game does not ship inside the goods box.

A photo spot at gamescom asia and Thailand Game Show 2026

Square Enix will also set up a FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE photo spot at gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026, which runs in Bangkok, Thailand, from October 30 to November 1, 2026.

Visitors can take photos at the booth, and the publisher is positioning it as a chance for fans in Southeast Asia to mark the release in person.

For readers who want to weigh the game before buying, the official Square Enix Asia news portal page for FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE lists the platform spread, the editions and the demo. The official website carries the character and system breakdowns.

The Final Fantasy Resonance launch puts the series into HD-2D for the first time. The game is available now on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Xbox on PC, with the Steam release one day behind the rest.
