The Perplexity Portable Computer is now available on Windows, running on NVIDIA GeForce RTX PCs and RTX PRO Workstations. Announced by Perplexity and NVIDIA, the release extends a local agent platform that until now covered DGX Spark systems and RTX PCs running Linux.
Portable Computer is the on-device version of Perplexity Computer, an agent that plans and carries out multistep tasks. Accelerated by NVIDIA GPUs, it uses local models to work across files and handle recurring jobs. Sensitive documents stay on the machine, and tasks finished locally do not consume Perplexity Computer credits.
What the Perplexity Portable Computer can do locally
NVIDIA lists the kind of work the agent takes on: organising open pull requests in a connected GitHub project and flagging outdated documentation; reviewing brokerage statements and tax documents to surface recurring fees, with each finding cited back to the file and page; and analysing customer signup data to show where users drop off before posting the findings to Slack.
When a task calls for web research or heavier cloud reasoning, Portable Computer asks for permission before sending content to a cloud service, so the user decides what leaves the device.
Requirements and setup
Windows support covers NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB or more of VRAM. Setup is eased by a bundled local model, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, that is post-trained for Perplexity Computer and optimised for RTX GPUs, so users do not have to choose models or assemble a local AI stack. Connectors for Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and GitHub tie the agent into apps already in daily use. NVIDIA says DGX Station support is expected soon.
Why it matters for local AI buyers
For anyone shopping for an AI-capable machine, the pitch is concrete: agentic AI that reads private documents without uploading them, and without spending cloud credits on every task. The catch is the hardware bar. The feature needs at least 24GB of VRAM, which points to higher-tier RTX cards rather than entry-level GPUs. Pricing and Philippine availability were not part of the announcement, though it lands as RTX laptops become the new campus essential for student AI workloads.
