Chinese smartphone brand Honor is pushing the boundaries of mobile technology with the introduction of a “robot phone” concept. Unveiled alongside the new Magic8 and Magic8 Pro models, the device features a camera module hidden inside the phone that extends and moves 360 degrees on a robotic arm.

This innovative design integrates robotic functions, acting like a “mini-gimbal” to allow for free movement up, down, and sideways, enabling full 360-degree shooting.

The real innovation lies in the device’s deep artificial intelligence integration. Honor’s concept video showcased the camera acting as an “emotional companion” that actively interacts with users. For instance, if asked for an opinion on an outfit, the robot camera can recognize the query and nod its body up and down to signal approval. The AI is also demonstrated automatically surveying surroundings while a user is walking and even comforting a crying child.

Honor stated that the robot phone signifies a vision for the future of mobile phones as more than just a tool, evolving into a companion that “senses, adapts, and grows.” While detailed specifications for the concept device remain under wraps, the company plans to reveal more at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona early next year.
