Remember that time when I got head over heels in love with the BlackBerry Q10? That feeling went back upon seeing this sleek smartphone called LG L70 Dual. First things first, I never thought I’d fall for an LG product that easily. No offense but, I thought I won’t appreciate it that much. Thankfully, I was wrong. Well, that’s what you get for ‘judging a book by its cover’.

The Look

The L70 Dual is among LG’s lineup of its L-series – a variety of smartphones with prices ranging from budget to pricey ones. Let’s get this review started with its physical features that include a 4.5-inch capacitive touch screen display with a 480×800-pixel IPS screen. You can just imagine me enjoying my current favorite Korean drama while killing time. Thanks to its slim body, not to mention modern design, I was able to slip it in the tiniest pocket of my bag when I’m in a hurry. And I don’t have to worry about scratches because it is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Unlike other smartphones, L70 Dual comes with a rough back cover that made it easier for me to use it.

Aside from its wide screen, it has four buttons at the bottom for back, home, settings, and dual sim option. On the sides of the L70 Dual are a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside USB port, volume rockers, and power button. If other smartphones can only be unlocked using the power button, the L70 Dual is a different thing for you can access everything just by tapping the screen twice. The same goes when you want to give it a rest. Now, my friends is what you call LG’s Knock Code. In fact, you can also set a personalized pattern for your home screen access and it’s optimized for single-handed use.

The Performance

The L70 Dual runs on Android’s latest OS Kitkat (4.4.2) and is powered by 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with Adreno 302 GPU for better visual quality. I’m telling you right now that the specs don’t lie. It’s perfect for HD videos and games – only if you really are into them.

Moving on, it allows you to save music and videos up to 4GB in its internal memory or you can keep them in the microSD card that is expandable up to 32GB. As for the RAM, the L70 Dual has a good 1GB that is quite enough. You can use two sim cards at the same time and actually customize the settings according to your preference.

I had fun browsing the Internet, checking on my Facebook and Twitter accounts, and reading various articles on different websites because there was no lagging or whatever you call it. Trust me, I was glad that LG came up with a budget smartphone that is capable of online activity through its HSDPA (21 Mbps) data. I was able to run three online applications all at the same time and they worked just fine. There’s no doubt about its performance, but it would’ve been better if this device has a pre-downloaded social media applications to save time. You know, when you’re too busy to go online and install apps.

As for the camera, it has a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera. I’m paranoid when it comes to camera phones because I want quality photos that I can share on Instagram. To be honest, I was kind of disappointed upon learning about the L70 Dual’s camera. Good thing is that, it can stay up for three days with its 2100mAh battery infused with SIO+ battery technology.

The Features

There are so many things to love about the L70 Dual like Capture Plus that lets you capture a full view of a web page and Clip Tray that allows you to create a collection of items you’ve saved. While capturing a photo or a video, you can focus on more than one area for a clearer image. Also, I love the fact that it has Smartworld, LG’s version of online market full of themes, wallpapers, fonts, games, and other applications that you can download for your merriment.

Conclusion

Overall, I find the L70 Dual an almost-perfect smartphone because of some reasons. One, it has a really stylish design and two, its rapidness during online surfing is something to be commended. I’d definitely endorse this to my friends who are looking for a not-so expensive gadget that can get through them through the day. This can be yours for P8,490.
