LumaFold iPhone Duo app home screen showing Beauty and Create modes

LumaFold, a new photo and video app built around the iPhone Duo’s two screens, is now on the Philippine App Store. The LumaFold iPhone Duo app gives each half of the unfolded display a separate job: one side runs a live camera mirror, the other becomes a flat panel of adjustable light.

It is a narrow, single-purpose idea from solo developer Max Babenko, who ships under the TypeSwitch name. Our iPhone Duo unboxing covers the hardware the app is written for.

What the LumaFold iPhone Duo app actually does

The app splits into Beauty and Create modes. In Mirror and Light, the camera half shows a live preview while the other half glows at a brightness and warmth you set, with Makeup, Close-Up and Light Test tabs for detail work at the vanity.

Create mode leans on color. Each side takes its own tone and brightness, or both can be linked for a matching look. Animated gradients, waves and geometric patterns run on a cycle length and scale you control, which is closer to a moving backdrop than a lamp.

A fourth combination shows a photo on one side and gives you a blank canvas on the other for drawing or handwriting, with blur, saturation, size and position controls for the image. Setups can be saved and recalled. The app needs no account, and the listing says photos are processed on the device with setups stored locally.

Free to start, Pro from PhP199 a month

The download is free. That tier covers the makeup mirror, basic brightness and warmth controls, preset colors and one animation. LumaFold Pro, priced on the Philippine App Store, runs PhP199 a month, PhP999 a year, or PhP1,990 once for a lifetime unlock. Pro adds custom colors and warmth, the full set of lighting controls, the complete animation library, photo light and saved setups.

The math is worth doing before subscribing: the lifetime price is roughly what ten months of the monthly plan costs, so the monthly tier only earns its keep for a short trial.

A screen light, not a studio light

Babenko’s own product page is upfront about the limits. LumaFold is not a calibrated studio light, not a color reference tool and not a camera replacement, and output depends on screen brightness, distance, angle and the surface being lit. The app requires iOS 18 or later and runs on any iPhone or iPad, not just the Duo. It is English only, sits in Photo and Video at 5.1 MB, and has no user ratings yet.

For object shots, the practical use is fill: a second phone holds the camera while the Duo throws colored light on jewelry or a bottle, which is the setup in these press images. Our hands-on impressions explain why the folded form makes that easier than propping up a phone.
