The iPhone Duo went on sale in the Philippines today, and one of the first games built around its hinge is a grilled-cheese sim. Toastie for iPhone Duo turns the phone into a toaster lid: build the sandwich from an order card, fold the screen shut to cook it, and open it before the bread burns.

The game sells for PhP199 on the Philippine App Store and has been out since October 10. As of October 30 it sits at number 8 on Apple’s Top Paid Games chart for the country, one place above Balatro, which is unusual company for a first release from a two-person studio. It runs on any iPhone and iPad, but the folding version is the reason it is getting attention.

How Toastie for iPhone Duo becomes a toaster

Orders arrive as handwritten recipe cards. The Works asks for brioche, butter, Gruyère, Taleggio, mushroom, tomato and red onion, with a note to spread everything out and grill for about eight seconds. You lay the ingredients in order, close the lid, and wait for the melt to catch.

Closing the Duo shuts the grill and opening it checks the toastie. The final score weighs recipe accuracy, plating, browning and time taken, and a perfect run unlocks a gold card to share. There are 10 orders, three loaves and 14 ingredients in all, and the recipe book syncs through iCloud between devices.

What the fold actually changes

On a regular phone, Toastie is a cooking game with an illustrated appliance on screen. On the Duo the appliance is the device: the outer face is drawn as a red toaster with a chrome dial, a maker’s plate and the instruction “Open the toaster when done”. The plate reads 2299-D, and the studio’s fiction prices that toaster at 2,299 euros in grade 5 titanium with one moving part. In the game it always costs what the phone it runs on costs. Apple lists the game with a Made for iPhone Duo badge, and the studio says Apple ranked it first in its Great Games on iPhone Duo collection in the US, the UK and more than 30 other markets.

The timing works locally because the phone reached Philippine stores on October 30, starting at PhP159,990 for the 256GB model. Fold support arrived as a free update rather than a separate purchase, so anyone who already bought the game pays nothing extra.

What PhP199 gets you

The price is a one-off. The studio, SKOTY Tomasz Szykulski of Warsaw, says there are no ads, no tracking and no in-app purchases. The App Store listing shows an 84MB download, iOS 18 or later, a 4+ age rating and English as the only language, and no ratings have been recorded on the Philippine storefront yet.

Updates keep coming: version 1.2.1 added the free Halloween Special, three orders (Vampire’s Bane, Monster Melt and Pumpkin Spell) that stay on the menu after the season, and the build had reached version 1.2.2 by October 30.

Toastie was designed, drawn and scored by Cyprian Brytan and Tomasz Szykulski, and it has drawn coverage from international tech press since launch.
