Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold has suffered a catastrophic and unprecedented durability failure, resulting in a battery explosion during testing by popular YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Explodes
In a video that shocked the tech community, the foldable smartphone became the first device in Nelson’s decade of testing to catch fire on camera, triggering a smoke alarm in his studio.

The failure occurred during the strenuous reverse bend test. As Nelson applied pressure against the device’s folding orientation, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold snapped at the same point that doomed its predecessors: the antenna lines near the hinge. This structural collapse reportedly pinched the internal battery layers, causing a dangerous short circuit and subsequent thermal runaway that engulfed the device in smoke.

In addition, the new foldable’s claims of ruggedness were questioned. Despite sporting a premium IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, Nelson’s simple test involving fine dirt resulted in a “crunching” sound from the hinge, suggesting dust accumulation. Furthermore, the inner foldable screen proved highly susceptible to damage, as it scratched easily.

Nelson concluded the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is “by far the weakest folding phone” he has ever tested, underscoring Google’s failure to fix a known, generations-old structural flaw.
