Qualcomm opened Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui by announcing two flagship platforms at once: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both are built on a 2nm process node, both use Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU, and both are pitched at phones that run AI agents on the handset instead of in the cloud.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6: Two Tiers, One Node
The shared foundation is an eight-core Oryon CPU with two prime cores clocked up to 5.0 GHz, which Qualcomm says is the first mobile CPU to cross the 5 GHz mark, joined by six performance cores at up to 4.0 GHz and 16MB of Oryon Flex Cache. Both platforms also get UFS 5.0 storage, LPDDR5X or LPDDR6 memory up to 24GB, the Snapdragon X105 5G modem, and FastConnect 8800 connectivity.
The Extreme tier pulls ahead with Adreno Neural Fusion, which pairs dedicated Adreno matrix cores with 50 percent more shared graphics memory so generative and neural workloads can run alongside games.
What Each Tier Promises
Measured against the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the standard platform claims 10 percent faster CPU performance, 37 percent better CPU power efficiency, 35 percent faster graphics, 40 percent better GPU power efficiency, a 14 percent faster NPU, and 20 percent better AI performance per watt. The Extreme version lifts those to 13 percent on CPU, 37 percent on CPU efficiency, 44 percent on GPU, and 40 percent on GPU efficiency, with a 35 percent faster NPU and 33 percent better AI performance per watt.
Qualcomm expects Neural Fusion to reach more than 20 game titles with AI super resolution, frame generation, and ray tracing with Lumen Global Illumination. The Extreme platform is also the first in the family to record 8K video at 60fps and 4K super slow motion at 240fps, and it adds the APV codec, H.266 decoding, AI noise reduction, and real-time tone adjustments for skin tones and skies during 4K60 capture.
On-Device Agents, and the First Phones
AI is the headline pitch. The Hexagon NPU with a new Element Accelerator can run mixture-of-experts models above 30 billion parameters on-device, which Qualcomm frames as the difference between an assistant that answers questions and an agent that finishes tasks. The X105 is likewise Qualcomm’s first modem with 3GPP Release 19 support, while FastConnect 8800 brings Wi-Fi 8 readiness with peak rates the company lists at 11.6 Gbps.
“Today marks a milestone as we introduce not one, but two new flagship mobile platforms, delivering agentic AI experiences that are immediate, personal, and adaptive,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies.
Devices are coming from Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. Motorola’s Signature 27 is among the first to market, and Nicole Hagen of Motorola says it will receive seven years of OS upgrades with a worldwide rollout in 2026. Xiaomi’s Adam Zeng confirmed its upcoming Pro series will use both tiers, with the Pro Max taking the Extreme platform ahead of a global launch later in 2026.
