iPhone Duo: What We Know So Far in the Philippines

The foldable Apple took its time to build

Apple spent years watching everyone else fold a phone, and on September 9 it finally answered with the iPhone Duo. The interesting part is not that it folds. It is that Apple rebuilt the experience around what a fold actually lets you do. Opened, it is the thinnest iPhone Apple has made. Closed, it is a regular-sized phone you can use one-handed, which is the part people underestimate until they hold one.

Two displays, one iPhone

The inner panel is a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display, 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max screen. The outer panel is a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display that gives you 90 percent of the iPhone 18 Pro’s screen area, and both share the same aspect ratio, so content scales between them instead of jumping around.

Apple also went after the two complaints every foldable owner has: glare and the crease. The inner display carries a nano-texture finish that scatters reflections and softens the crease line, and both panels support ProMotion, Always On, and up to 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The FaceTime camera sits under the inner display and stays invisible until it is needed, so nothing breaks up the canvas.

What is inside

Power comes from the A20 Pro, paired with a vapor chamber and, a first on iPhone, a dual-battery architecture. Apple rates it at up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display, and roughly 24 hours of mixed use, with fast wired charging reaching 50 percent in about 20 minutes.

The frame is grade 5 titanium, the hinge uses over 100 components, and the phone carries an IP68 rating. Touch ID moves to the side button so it works open or closed, Apple Watch can unlock it, and there is a Camera Control button for quick shooting. Apple Pencil support arrives later this year, and the phone is eSIM only.

A camera that uses the fold

The rear setup pairs a 48MP Fusion Main camera with an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto, plus a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. Two screens unlock things a normal iPhone cannot do. Duo Preview shows your subject the live shot on the outer display so they can fix their pose. Kid Cue plays animations to get a child to look at the lens. Duo FaceTime lets people next to you join a call on the outer screen. Video goes up to 4K120 in Dolby Vision.

It comes in star white and night sky. Pre-orders open October 16, availability starts October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, with 28 more markets following on October 30. US pricing starts at $1,999. At this price the Duo competes with a good laptop, or with a phone plus a tablet. Apple is selling the largest screen it has ever put in a phone, and it is charging accordingly.

Why you should hold one before you decide

Here is what no spec sheet can settle. Weight distribution, hinge resistance, and how the crease feels under your thumb are the difference between a foldable you use every day and one you leave on a desk. We learned this with the Galaxy Z Fold8 earlier this year. In person, people do not ask about the chip first. They open the phone, read something on the inner screen, close it, and then they ask when they can buy one. That reaction does not travel through a review.

So our advice is simple. The A20 Pro numbers are impressive and the display sounds genuinely good on paper, but this is a device you need in your hands for five minutes before committing PhP159,990. Apple says retail and carrier rollout details for the Philippines will be announced closer to launch, so keep an eye on the resellers you already trust.
