Mastercard has debuted Apple Pay for its cardholders in the Philippines, giving users a faster, more secure, and private way to pay in-store, in apps, and online. The feature is available on various Apple devices which includes iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.

For in-store purchases, users can double-click the side button, authenticate, and hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near a contactless terminal. Payments are protected through Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, along with a one-time dynamic security code. Apple Pay is accepted in everyday locations – Grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops, and retail stores.

“The launch of Apple Pay enables secure, seamless, and convenient payment experiences for consumers in the Philippines. As digital adoption continues to accelerate in this region, we’re excited to continue connecting people to the payment choices they want and the peace of mind they need every time they pay.”

– Jason Crasto, Country Manager of Mastercard in the Philippines

Apple Pay also streamlines checkout on iPhone, iPad, and Mac by reducing the need to create accounts or repeatedly enter contact, card, shipping, and billing details. As for security, actual card numbers are neither stored on the device nor on Apple servers. Instead, there’s a unique Device Account Number encrypted and stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip for storing payment information safely on the device.

To setup Apple Pay on iPhone, open the Wallet app, tap ‘+’, and then follow the steps to add a Mastercard credit or debit card. Once a card is added, customers can start using Apple Pay right away and continue to get all of the rewards and benefits offered by Mastercard.
