Samsung has revealed its plans to buy top car and home Audio Product maker Harman for approximately $8 billion, in order to strengthen its foundation in the car audio and software segment.

65% of Harman’s sales last year came from car-related products, which are installed in around 30 million vehicles worldwide. Acquisition of the company will help Samsung on its catch up mission against rivals Google and Apple, which are both progressing rapidly in automotive technology.

Samsung doesn’t plan to stop there however, as the company revealed that the deal will also extend to its consumer electronics segment. Whether this would work out remains to be seen, but it means that we might get to see future Samsung devices (whatever those may be) with audio powered by Harman.
