If we take a look at the history of Cherry Mobile, they have launched several devices positioned for Filipinos of all walks of life. In the earlier years of Cherry Mobile (pre-2011), they have launched lots of feature phones (Java-powered), which are specifically aimed for call-and-text users. As the mobile revolution progresses, Cherry embraced Google’s Android and started selling smartphones with ‘meh’ to impressive hardware specifications. Cyberpress noticed this and eventually gave Cherry Mobile the IT Company of the year last 2010.

For “Mang Kulas” to “Genevieve Roxas”

Cherry Mobile revolutionized and pioneered the local mobile phone industry, and most of you can attest to this. It sprung a healthy to fierce competition that benefits Filipinos. Today, Cherry Mobile, true to its brand – “Everything for Everyone”, they are continuously bringing exciting products for the typical “Mang Kulas the Tricycle Driver” to “Genevieve Roxas, the socialite.”

Christmas Sale and the Number 80

You’re probably aware that CM is readying a mega Christmas sale. Unless you’re living in a rock or you just don’t actually care, Cherry Mobile fans (especially Mac-Mac) posted several leaked specifications of Life, Titan 2.0, Omega XL, W900 LTE and Flare S.

Last October 18, CM also posted this Christmas-themed yet very enigmatic photo with number 80 on it. I just can’t help but speculate that these 2 somewhat enthralling events are linked; and I’ll bet my balls that some of you probably think the same way.

Christmas is the “season to be Cherry” for Cherry Mobile, and from what I see, it looks like the “fruit-company” is going to flaunt 80+ phone either on sale/discounted or with a freebie per every unit purchased. This connects the 2 leaked poster (with phone specs) and the “enigmatic” photo I was referring to earlier. Hold your horse though; this doesn’t mean that CM is going to sell 80 Android smartphone variants this Christmas. It could be a healthy mix of feature phones and Android smartphones.

Last October 21, Cherry Mobile officially announced that there will be 80+ new devices to be made available for all Filipinos this Christmas Season! That will be 42 Feature Phones and 42 Android Smartphones and Tablets this Christmas, to be exact.

Of course, 84 gadgets aren’t the total kickers. According to Cherry Mobile, some of the upcoming devices will have32GB ROM and 2GB RAM. CM also teased that they will finally have an NFC Certified Phone, Full HD Phablet and the sought-after LTE Smartphone (Smart LTE and Globe LTE ready).

It’s expected for CM – as teased – to release a phone with front auto focus camera with flash, new more phones with Flare monicker and quad core tablets that will bear the superion mark.

What’s Next for Cherry?

Cherry is expected to evolve into something better (so does other local brands). Most, if not all, of CM’s devices are rebranded. But as mentioned by Cherry Mobile President and CEO, Maynard Ngu, during the Cosmos Launch, Cherry will soon release phones that aren’t rebranded but purely made by Filipinos for Filipinos.

In another light, if things go as planned and as expected, Cherry Mobile will bring more devices with “…ng Bayan” monicker. The future of us seeing more “LTE ng Bayan”, “NFC ng Bayan” and ‘fHD ng Bayan” is bright. But as these new devices come, the brand that Cherry created must be made synonymous to ‘good service’. As they bring in more devices for Filipinos, they should further beef up their service.
