Meta is rolling out Facebook Verified, a free badge to show that a real person is behind a profile. This uses a selfie-based verification process and is aimed at helping users identify genuine accounts across key parts of the platform. The rollout begins in select markets and will expand globally over time.

How Facebook Verified Works

To qualify, users must be 18 years old or older, must meet Facebook’s trust and safety standards, and have no evidence of inauthentic behavior. The feature is not available for Pages or ProMode accounts.

For verification, users only need to record a short video selfie, which is then matched against existing profile photos. The process is free and usually takes only a few minutes.

Where the Badge Appears

Once verified, the badge will appear in several places including Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and profiles. There are also plans to add the badge to Feed posts later. The company says there is no subscription fee, and users only need to verify once for the badge to follow them across Facebook.

What the Badge Means

The Facebook Verified badge means a profile belongs to a real person who completed the selfie verification process and has met the platform’s standards. It is intended to help users before they respond to a listing, accept a date, or join a conversation. At the same time, the badge does not mean Facebook endorses the user or guarantees trustworthiness.
