Nintendo is reportedly considering an OLED version of its Switch 2 console, featuring Full HD resolution. Reports indicate that if the project is approved, product development could begin by the end of 2026, with mass production in late 2027 or early 2028.
Nintendo 2 Switch 2 OLED by 2027?
Samsung Display is expected to supply the OLED panels, continuing its partnership from the original Switch OLED. However, the premium console’s release remains unconfirmed due to pricing concerns. A recent surge in component prices, especially for memory components, has pressured Nintendo to minimize expenses.

While OLED screens offer superior contrast, faster response times, and a slimmer, lighter profile, they are significantly more expensive to produce than the LCD panels featured in the standard Switch 2.
Insiders note that this price disparity is currently the primary obstacle. Nintendo’s final decision on the Switch 2 OLED will depend on whether they can arrive at a price that is appealing to consumers amid market instability.
