The Esports World Cup 2026 has officially opened in Paris and marks the first international edition of the event as well as a new milestone for competitive gaming. Running through August 23 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the seven-week event brings together more than 2,000 players, 200 clubs, and participants from over 100 countries for 25 tournaments across 24 games and a record-breaking USD 75 million prize pool.

Road to Paris
The road to this year’s competition was larger than ever, with more than 1.5 million players taking part in 330 Road to EWC qualification events, publisher leagues, and international circuits. That qualifying path helped determine who earned a place on the world’s biggest esports stage.
Organizers described gaming as a global language, highlighting the industry’s ability to connect people across cultures and continents. The Esports World Cup exists to give that community its defining annual competition, while Paris offers a stage that matches the event’s international ambitions.
Leadership and Vision
Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, said the Esports World Cup brings together great players, great games, and unforgettable champions on one annual stage. The event’s Club Championship makes it different from other competitions because it rewards not only individual skill, but also consistency, depth, and ambition across an entire club.
HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, Board Member of the Esports Foundation, said the competition began in Saudi Arabia with a belief that esports deserved a global stage equal to the passion of its players, clubs, publishers, and fans. He said Riyadh will always remain the home and foundation of the Esports World Cup, while Paris represents an exciting new chapter for the community.
Marina Ferrari, France’s Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life, said hosting the first international edition in Paris is a source of pride for France. She praised the collaboration between the Esports Foundation and French authorities and said the event reflects France’s ability to host major international competitions.
Global Reach
The 2026 edition also features the return of Global Ambassadors Cristiano Ronaldo and Magnus Carlsen. Their involvement reflects the event’s position at the intersection of sport, gaming, and global culture.
The competition is built around the Club Championship, a seven-week race where every match can alter the standings. Of the USD 75 million prize pool, USD 30 million is reserved for the Club Championship, including USD 7 million for the winning club. Team Falcons will attempt to defend its title after back-to-back victories in 2024 and 2025.
Broadcast coverage is expected to reach fans in more than 160 countries through 100 broadcast and OTT partners, with more than 7,000 hours of live programming planned. The event will be distributed across platforms including DAZN, FOX Sports, France Télévisions, TV5 Monde, L’Équipe, Eurosport, HBO Max, CBS Sports Network, and Thmanyah, while coverage in China will include Kuaishou, Bilibili, Huya, Douyu, Douyin, and Tencent Video.
The creator ecosystem is also expanding, with up to 5,000 official co-streamers helping amplify the competition through the Creator Program.

The Esports World Cup 2026 will crown champions across 25 tournaments in 24 games, including Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Call of Duty: Warzone, Chess, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, EA SPORTS FC 26, Fortnite, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Overwatch 2, PUBG MOBILE, Rocket League, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, VALORANT, and others.
The event is also supported by a global coalition of partners, including stc, Qiddiya, Lenovo, Sony Group Corporation, Allianz, Aramco, Saudia, Hilton, OBSBOT, ALBAIK, Secretlab, Webook, and NRJ.
