Apple’s ultra-thin iPhone Air has reportedly failed to capture consumer interest, resulting in a huge reduction in its supply chain. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, suppliers are expected to reduce production capacity for the model by more than 80 percent between now and the first quarter of 2026.

Apple’s ‘iPhone Air’: Failed Experiment?

The cut confirms multiple reports of underwhelming sales performance. Nikkei Asia previously claimed there is “virtually no demand” for the lightweight phone, and Mizuho had indicated a reduction of one million units in planned production.

The iPhone Air, distinguished by its 5.6mm build and a design that reportedly compromised on certain features, was Apple’s most recent attempt to produce a “wildcard spot” in its lineup, a position previously held by the unsuccessful iPhone mini and iPhone Plus models.

Kuo suggests that the robust sales of the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models are already meeting the majority of high-end user demand, leaving little appetite for the Air’s niche design. This struggle was also faced by competitor Samsung, reportedly seeing similar disappointing results from its super-thin Galaxy S25 Edge.
