CHIBA, Japan — The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) opened Tokyo Game Show 2026 at 10:00 AM today, September 17, at Makuhari Messe. The show runs until Monday, September 21, a national holiday in Japan, making it the longest run in the event’s history, under the theme “The Longest Five Days of Nonstop Play.”
This year’s edition gathers 1,138 exhibitors — 540 from Japan and 598 from overseas — representing a record 53 countries and regions. That edges past last year’s 1,136 exhibitors and the 47 countries and regions that took part in 2025. The show’s 3,999 booths are spread across Makuhari Messe’s halls 1–11 and the International Conference Hall, with the Family Game Park at the adjacent TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall.

Where this year’s floor space went
The Indie Game Area stands as the largest single block with 292 exhibitors, 78 of them part of the SELECTED INDIE 80 showcase. The General Exhibition remains the show’s centerpiece at 284 exhibitors, down from 335, while the Business Meeting Area climbed to 251 from 177 — the biggest gain of any area. The eSports Area grew to 10 from 6, and the Smartphone Game Area rose to 16 from 13. The Gaming Hardware Area eased to 53 from 62, the AR/VR Area fell to 8 from 16, and the AI Technology Pavilion returns with 14 exhibitors. Three exhibitors make up the Game Accessibility Area.
Thirty years of the show
Tokyo Game Show 2026 marks the event’s 30th anniversary, and CESA has tied several programs to the milestone. Hall 5 on the second floor hosts a panel exhibition tracing the game industry from 1996, the year of the first Tokyo Game Show, to the present, alongside a message board and a photo frame for the #TGS30th photo-sharing campaign. Autograph boards carrying messages from game creators and development teams are displayed on the second floor of Hall 10.

A made-to-order 30th Anniversary Ticket pairs admission to all three public days with a limited-edition pure gold (K24) medal engraved with artwork from popular game titles, set in a frame engraved with the buyer’s name and serial number.
Gadget Pilipinas is on the ground in Chiba to cover the full five days. Earlier this year we rounded up the 30th anniversary initiatives CESA announced for TGS 2026.
Business days run September 17 and 18, and public days follow from September 19 to 21. CESA expects around 300,000 visitors across the run. The exhibitor list and the full schedule are on the official Tokyo Game Show 2026 site.
