Secrets of Temple Isle is out now on Steam for PC, and the 1990s-inspired action RPG comes from a one-person team: developer Moses Doyle built the game solo on a custom C++ engine he has been refining since the late 1990s.
The launch is dated September 15, 2026, with the game listed at USD 13.99 and a 28% launch discount that runs for seven days. Players take on the role of a renowned treasure hunter whose search for ancient riches is cut short when a fleet of time-traveling pirates invades a peaceful island. Ambushed and marooned, the hunter leads a rebellion to free the towns and uncover the island’s forgotten powers.
A 1990s dungeon crawler built by one developer
Exploration runs across a seamless overworld of ruins, temples, towns and cave networks, with puzzles, hidden keys and secret chambers that pay out loot, currency and experience. Combat is deliberate rather than flashy: heavy sword strikes with timing-based defence, backed by weapons, armour and upgrades that grow with the character. The game’s Steam tags list Retro, Third Person, Metroidvania and Action RPG.
Cooking, stealth and decorating between fights
Preparation matters as much as reflexes. Ingredients gathered across different biomes become health-boosting meals, experience buys skill upgrades, and sleep pollen lets players sneak past guarded posts instead of fighting through them. Rare artifacts recovered from ruins can be spent on homes across the island, which double as retreats to furnish and decorate. The inventory is a list grouped by Food, Weapons, and Consumables, and saves work both manually and automatically. A launch trailer shows the third-person combat and dungeon design in motion.
Doyle’s own summary of the project is specific about the target: “Secrets of Temple Isle gave me the breathing room to tell a richer story and allows players to engage in more meaningful dialogue. My goal for the gameplay was to bring back that classic feeling of genuine discovery, where the world rewards curiosity and observation.”
Requirements and where it runs
The PC version asks for Windows 8 or later (Steam’s client itself now needs Windows 10+), 8 GB of RAM, a DirectX 9-compatible graphics card, and 3 GB of storage. Doyle has shipped PC titles before, including Radical Heroes and Atomic Adam, and the island setting was previously known as Wacambria Island before it was rebranded to Secrets of Temple Isle.
