Valve’s Steam Machine is the most awaited console of 2026 with most gamers’ expectation of a competitively priced alternative against the Sony PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, and premium gaming handhelds. The console’s launch was mostly negatively received due to its starting price of $1,049 for the starting variant driven by the AI-incuded storage shortage. Adding salt to the wound is its regional exclusivity, leaving other countries such as the Philippines to rely on resellers and pay the absurd premium price.
First Steam Machine Listing in the Philippines
GameXtreme, a popular local electronics retailer, has listed on its website a 512GB with Controller variant of the Valve Steam Machine. While its expected that gamers outside Valve’s coverage will pay marked up prices, the Php 110,000 price compared to the $1,128 SRP or roughly Php 69,000 converted. Even if you take into account the supposed 10-20% dealer margin, import taxes and demand, the Php 110,400 price tag is a hefty price to pay for most, if not, all gamers.
Even considering today’s inflated prices, you could build a Steam Machine-like custom gaming PC as well as buy either a PlayStation 5 or XBOX Series X console for the price of GameXtreme’s offering. Not to mention that warranty will also be a tricky situation as GameXtreme is not part of Valve’s official retailers.
