Google is set to roll out Gemini Intelligence to Android devices starting this summer, but a new report reveals that the majority of current smartphones will be left in the dark due to heavy hardware demands.
Gemini Intelligence Hardware Requirements
According to a report by Android Authority, running the advanced AI suite will require a minimum of 12GB of RAM, a premium “flagship chip,” and software support for both AI Core and Gemini Nano v3 or higher.

These mean that even highly capable, relatively recent flagship devices will not make the cut. Most older Pixel phones, excluding the Pro variants of the Pixel 7, 8, 9, and the newer Pixel 10 series, will completely miss out on the upgrade. Surprisingly, the restrictions also block mainstream 2026 releases like Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and its rumored TriFold device.
Industry experts point out that the vast majority of smartphones compatible with the required Gemini Nano v3 standard were released exclusively in 2026. Aside from Google’s own Pixel 10 series, early compatibility lists only include select high-end models, such as the OPPO Find X9 series and the Vivo X300 Pro.
