Google is now rolling out its Ultra HDR editing feature for selected users of Google Photos, as shared by Android Authority.

Google Photos – Ultra HDR

The Ultra HDR option, as per the report, is available for Android users with version 7.24.0.747539053 of the Google Photos app. However, this feature is said to be a server-side rollout. So Google has to enable this feature on their end before it shows up.

The option will be available in the “Adjust” section of the photo editor, and it will replace the HDR Effect option that is currently available. It will allow you to tweak the strength of Ultra HDR via a slider.

The photo that you edit will then be labeled “Ultra HDR” in its details with a noticeably smaller file size. Ultra HDR uses a gain map smaller than the main image that stores luminosity information. This allows devices to render brighter and more colorful images.

You can notice the difference, especially if your device has an HDR display or an operating system or browser that supports the Ultra HDR format.

The Google Photos feature will make it more convenient for its users to upgrade photos to Ultra HDR without using other programs or settings. This comes shortly after the Gemini app support was rolled out to users of Google’s app as well.
