According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to launch a significant software overhaul that will reshape the user experience across its iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms.

This sweeping redesign, expected to be unveiled at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, marks one of Apple’s most ambitious software updates in recent memory.

The planned changes, according to Gurman, encompassing iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, aim to create a more unified and seamless ecosystem, drawing inspiration from the innovative visionOS used in the Vision Pro headset. Key aspects of the overhaul include:

  • Unified User Interface:
    • The company is striving to create a consistent visual language across all its devices, reducing the discrepancies that currently exist.
    • This effort seeks to provide a more harmonious transition for users moving between iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
  • VisionOS Influence:
    • Elements from visionOS, such as refined icons, translucent panels, and enhanced depth effects, are expected to be integrated into the new operating systems.
    • This will result in a more modern and immersive user experience.
  • Comprehensive Redesign:
    • The updates will extend to fundamental elements of the operating systems, including icons, menus, first-party applications, windows, and system controls.

This initiative comes as Apple seeks to reinvigorate its product lineup and enhance user engagement. The company’s goal is to create an intuitive experience that will resonate with both long-time users and new customers.

Analysts predict a software overhaul for Apple’s devices could boost sales and solidify its market position. The new operating systems are expected to be released in fall, and user reactions are expected.
