Google is making chatting with your phone a reality with Gemini LLM, now in beta on the Google Messages app.
Gradually rolling out to select testers, Gemini lets you text with AI to draft messages, brainstorm ideas, or just chat.

If you’re one of the lucky testers, look for the Gemini button in the Messages app or access it after tapping “Start a chat.” You’ll get on-screen instructions on first use.
Once set up, you can converse directly with Gemini like on the website. For instance, ask for a 3-course vegetarian dinner menu, and it’ll reply.
Your chats are saved for 72 hours in Messages, even if Gemini Apps Activity is off. You can delete entire chats or specific prompts in the Gemini Apps Activity.
Requirements you need to gain access to Gemini LLM:
- An eligible Android phone:
- Pixel 6 or later
- Pixel Fold
- Samsung Galaxy S22 or later
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Z Fold
- Set phone language to English (or French if located in Canada)
- Updated Google Messages
- A personal Google Account
- Can’t be a Google Account managed by Family Link or with a Google Workspace account
- Must be 18 years old or older
- RCS chats enabled
While currently limited to beta testers, Google hints at a wider release soon.
