The Cupertino-based tech giant is the only company in the top three manufacturers to show a positive year-over-year growth in its annual shipments with a 3.7% growth. IDC credited the success of Apple with the higher demand for higher-end devices coupled with aggressive trade-in programs and financing options.

Moreover, IDC mentioned the diversification of the Android space as an additional reason for Samsung’s decline. Among the examples include Huawei’s return to grace in China as well as the more competitive devices in the premium segment from companies like OnePlus, HONOR, and Google.

Speaking of Samsung, the Korean tech company reported 226.6 million shipments and 53 million shipments for the year and in the last quarter, respectively. This garnered the company a 19.4% market share for the year and a 16.3% Q4 market share.
