Red Bull Continues to Dominate the 2023 F1 Season with Verstappen’s Win at Spielberg
Red Bull Racing continues to solidify its position as the dominant team for the 2023 Formula One season as Max Verstappen has claimed another victory, this time at the Red Bull ring in Spielberg, Austria.
This is Verstappen’s 5th consecutive win, and his 42nd career victory. This places him ahead of the legend Ayrton Senna in terms of career wins (42 for Verstappen, 41 for Senna). This also increases Red Bull’s lead for the constructors’ championship, pulling ahead of Mercedes by a massive 199 point margin.
As for the driver’s championship, Max still leads over teammate Sergio Perez, with Alonso, Hamilton, and Sainz rounding out the current top 5.
Max Verstappen, Max Points
Verstappen was definitely at his a-game all throughout the race weekend, winning both the race and sprint race, as well as setting the fastest lap of the race.
The current championship leader also started on Pole and led for most of the race. While it seemed at the start the Ferraris are somehow able to match, but the difference in pace became clear as the race went on. Max’s teammate, Sergio Perez, started further down the order, but was still able to climb back to a podium finish in third, after a fierce battle with Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, finished second, giving Ferrari its 800th podium finish. He also led the race at some point, but had to concede to Verstappen, who clearly had the better machine. Nevertheless, the Monegasque was able to extract every bit of the car’s potential.
Other drivers in point scoring positions were Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Pierre Gasly, and Lance Stroll. These are prior to any post-race penalties given.
The next race weekend is scheduled on July 7 to 9, at Silverstone in Great Britain.
