According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to have a new processor believed to be based on the Apple A15 Bionic chip.

Previously, the Apple Watch Series 8 was powered by the S8 chip which was similar to the S7 of the Watch Series 7 and S6 of the Series 6. These chips were based on the A13 Bionic chip that powered the iPhone 11 series.

If the report from Gurman is true, then the S9 chip would be drastically more powerful than its predecessors. The A13 Bionic chip was built on the TSMC 7nm process, while the A15 Bionic that powers the iPhone 13 series is based on the TSMC 5nm process making it more efficient.

It is uncertain though how the S9 chip will differ from the A15 Bionic chip, but it will definitely offer improved performance and efficiency across the board.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to arrive in a few months. Apple will hold the WWDC 2023 event from June 5-9 but the company is expected to introduce the next major software update, for the Watch series, it is expected to be watchOS 10.
