Samsung data breach - 2022

Samsung recently reported a data breach that happened in late July 2022 and was discovered around August 4, 2022.

The breach gave access to customer data but the company assured that information like Social Security numbers and credit and debit card numbers were not accessed. However, what was accessed included user information like name, contact and demographic information, date of birth, and product registration information.

“The information affected for each relevant customer may vary,” the company mentioned in its announcement. Customers whose data were affected are being contacted via email by Samsung.

Samsung is currently investigating what exactly happened and will update whatever they find.

“We have taken actions to secure the affected systems, and have engaged a leading outside cybersecurity firm and are coordinating with law enforcement,” the company clarified in its announcement.
