According to reports, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is trying to secure its role as a supplier for FC-BGA (full-chip ball grid array) substrates. These are used for CPUs and GPUs with high-density circuit connections for Apple’s M2 chipset.
Prior to this, Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplied the substrates for the Apple M1 chip. The M1 chip changed the mobile and PC world. It is the company’s first in-house silicone that replaced Intel’s chipsets.
Neither companies have yet to announce anything yet. However, the report coincides with another report that mentions that Samsung has invested more than USD 1 billion in building an FC-BGA production plant in Vietnam. In addition, it is said to have reported over USD 241 million more into an existing plant in South Korea.
