OPPO unveiled its 2021 Sustainability Report leading up to Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 in Barcelona on February 28.
The report highlighted the company’s achievements in the integration of sustainability and eco-friendly concepts all throughout the life cycle of its products. This is in accordance with the company’s brand mission “Technology for Mankind, Kindness to the World.”
OPPO has been committed to the implementation of the “3R+1D” sustainable packaging principles. This includes reducing weight and using recyclable and biodegradable materials for packaging.
Meanwhile, in the European market, OPPO has reduced its mobile packaging use by 24%, 45% was made using recycled fiber, and overall plastic used was reduced by 95% these were all compared to the company’s 2019 levels.
The company self-developed the Battery Health Engine to help increase battery durability and also increase battery life span. This technology helps the battery maintain its capacity as high as 80% after charging-discharging cycles of up to 1600 times.
In addition, OPPO has established a product recycling system that offers trade-in services in domestic and international markets. This promotes recycling and re-use of used mobile phones.
In China, more than 12 million phones have been recycled through the company’s system which equates to more than 216 tons of e-waste.
The manufacturer has also been working closely with other partners such as National Geographic. This partnership that has been going on for the past 2 years supports the protection of endangered species through the OPPO Endangered Color Campaign.
Furthermore, OPPO is one of the brands to join and also performed well in the Eco Rating Labeling Scheme. This scheme has been initiated by leading European mobile operators to evaluate the environmental performance of mobile phones in five key areas: durability, repairability, recyclability, and climate efficiency.
OPPO also contributed to sustainable development that focuses on key areas such as digital inclusion, health and well-being, and youth empowerment.
These contributions include – the Color Vision Enhancement feature that offers 766 display profiles and provides personalized solutions for those who are visually impaired and the Renovators Emerging Artists project that aims to encourage young creatives to imagine how art and technology will combine in the future.
MWC 2022, with the theme “Shape the Future”, is where OPPO will showcase its innovative mobile tech, latest achievements in AR and 5G, and success stories in sustainability.
