vivo has just unveiled the replacement for FuntouchOS – OriginOS. The company’s new Android UI is based on Android 11 and focuses on a new widget system, advanced gestures, and memory optimizations, to name a few of its features.

The re-imagined widget system is inspired by the Huarong Road, a type of sliding puzzle with different piece sizes. The home screen can be rearranged even with multiple widgets of mismatched sizes on the screen.

Tapping the widget expands it to reveal additional information and controls. Another feature of the widgets is “Nano Alerts” which show notifications from an app within its widget, which in itself sounds pretty interesting.

It will also feature a SuperCard which can be summoned from everywhere, including when the screen is off. This should come in handy for a quicker and easier mobile payment experience.

Memory Fusion is one of them which adds 3GB of extra RAM by shuffling data to the flash storage. Another feature is to optimize memory usage so software needs less RAM at the get-go. Lastly, the application preload hastens app start-up times by guessing which app will open next and prepare the data.

OriginOS will also introduce “behavioral wallpapers” that simulate complex motions. These can also match the weather outside by cloud cover, wind speed, and visibility of local weather conditions.

As far as rollout goes, over 30 vivo phones will get OriginOS in addition to the upcoming vivo X series phone, which will have it out of the box. The roadmap stretches from before the end of January 2021 to Q2 2021.
