More customers can now experience extended network coverage and better call quality, as Smart Communications, Inc announced the rollout of its Voice-Over-Wifi (VoWiFI) service or Wi-Fi calling service, starting with Smart Signature and Infinity customers.
Smart is also working with device manufacturers in making more VoWiFi-enabled devices available, such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Z Flip, Huawei Mate 10, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, P30 series, and the TCL PLEX T780H.
The technology is also available in mid-range Samsung devices such as its A-Series, as well as in the Galaxy Note 8 and newer, Galaxy S8 and newer, and the Galaxy Fold.
What Exactly is VoWiFi
VoWiFi or Wi-Fi Calling allows subscribers to make and receive calls and text messages via any Wi-Fi connection using their smartphone’s native dialer, without the need for any third-party app. Calls made via VoWiFi will be charged on the customer’s active subscription. For those without an active subscription, local and international voice and text rates shall apply.
Wi-Fi Calling also offers extended network coverage, as customers can make and receive calls wherever there’s a Wi-Fi connection. It also allows for high-definition call quality, as well as faster call setup, which means your phone can connect to another for a voice call much faster.
