It looks like 5G in the Philippines is actually happening sooner than expected, as 5G-ready SIM Cards from Smart have been spotted not only in select physical retailers, but also at Facebook Marketplace, and even in Lazada.

If these SIM Cards are indeed genuine, that could only mean that the Telco is now prepping its consumers for the official rollout of 5G, and consequently, 5G-ready smartphones from various OEMs. They cost PhP40 each.

If you think about it, the timing makes sense, as Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy S20 series in February, and Huawei’s P40 series on the latter part of Q1.

The possibility that they’ll release a 5G variant of their devices here in the Philippines isn’t also far off.

In any case, this is great news for consumers, as perhaps, soon enough, those who have compatible devices can finally experience the benefits of 5G technology.

We’ve yet to hear word from Smart if these SIM Cards are actually legit. Special thanks to our friends from Hungry Geeks for this information.
