Telcos don’t usually hold unboxing events. This time, with Smart Unbox, the telco-giant did something a little different… something more. Smart skipped the usual grind of unboxing a device. Instead of the usual hoopla, they encouraged everyone to unbox the Android Smartphone Kit, which everyone received before the event started.
The event, which was held at Shangri-La, The Fort, was pretty short and sweet. It was a perfect moment for Smart to shine and showcase what they have accomplished following their rebrand last month. It was also an opportune time for the company to unveil new and upcoming innovations.
PLDT and Smart Executives, sales and content partners, attended the event. During PLDT and Smart Chairman and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan’s opening message, he told everyone that the company “have come up with innovative products and services to bring the real-life benefits of connectivity to as many Filipinos as possible.” He also humbly stressed that they may have “slept” at little bit, but they are back with full arsenal of products and services that can revolutionize the customer experience.
MVP’s message was followed by presentations of Smart Wireless Consumer Operations head Katrina Luna-Abelarde and PLDT-Smart EVP and Consumer Group Head Ariel Fermin. Luna-Abelarde showcased Smart’s on-going promos and campaigns such as their latest Android Smartphone Prepaid Kit in partnership with Starmobile (see related news here), Super Speed LTE SIMs, and #OwnIt. Luna-Abelarde also proudly featured their B1G idea, which they rolled out last July 4. Check out the video below.
Luna-Abelardo also announced a new site and a tool (powered by Twitter’s API), which Smart cooked up to assist users to understand the parlance of mobile data and internet connectivity.
Meanwhile, Fermin formally launched SmartLife application, a mobile platform that allows users to gain perks, watch videos, listen to music and buy points and credits to popular games and digital stores. It features a robust ecosystem, which Smart has full control of. Fermin also announced that Filipino-Smart subscribers will be able to watch the upcoming Olympics and music concerts via the application for free.
The application connects with Facebook; and getting perks, download music, watching videos and purchasing game credits require Smart load.
