Sony Philippines recently launched the 3rd iteration of their Xperia Z line-up here in the Philippines. With Sony’s new devices, it looks those who “demand great” on mobile experience would be greatly satisfied.

Launched last October 15 are Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and the Z3 Tablet Compact. These devices are set to bring new standards in the smartphone industry, and boy, are we surprised with all of it. All devices are kitted with powerful Qualcomm devices – Snapdragon 801 with Adreno 330 GPU – that are ready to render superior performance (about 33% better than previous version).

The new Z3 family also have ultrabright Triluminos Display for mobile with Live Colour LED, X-Reality for mobile and intuitive contrast enhancement! All devices, moreover, are IP65/68 rated, which basically certifies and ensures that all Xperia Z3 devices are water and dust proof.

2 among the the new Z3-devices – Z3 and Z3 Compact – are packed with 20.7 main camera with 1/2.3″ ExymorRS mobile sensor and BIONZ!

And if you’re a hardcore Playstation 4 gamer, all the devices are Playstation 4 Remote Play compatible. This means that you can stream your favorite Playstation 4 games like DriveClub and Destiny directly to your smartphone. Take a look at the video demo below for your enjoyment. Xperia Z3, Don’t Wait and See – Buy It Instantly (if you’ve got the money)

Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3. Xperia Z3 is a fusion of intelligent and well-thought of design and engineering. Its 7.3mm super-slim rounded aluminum frame is something to really rave about – especially now that “metal” is the latest benchmark on having great build and design. Like its previous iterations, the Z3 maintains its signature design – durable tempered glass panels. The new device is a bit heavier than the 1st Z1 – 152 grams vs 146 grams.

The device also has a Full-HD 5.2″ Triluminos LED with X-Reality technology, which aim to provide unprecedented visual performance even in direct sunlight.

Perhaps, the most noteworthy among all new features is its 20.7 main camera with 1/2.3″ ExymorRS mobile sensor and BIONZ. With this kind of camera sensor, you are assured of impressive and strikingly detail photos. We were also informed that this mobile device has the world’s first smartphone with ISO 12800 sensitivity!

Another interesting feature are the social apps and features pre-installed in the camera app. Face In, AR Fun, Sound Photo and Multi-Camera are some of the few social-photo apps available. But what really caught my attention are Live On Youtube, which enables users to broadcast videos from their phones to YouTube channels. That’s perfect if you wish to bring the “concert” experience to your friends… LIVE. (Although most, if not all, concert organizers do not allow this; and TimeShift video, which allows users to record videos in high frame rate and apply slow motion effects accordingly. The latter feature, by the way, is also available in the previous Z-iterations.

Man, I could go on for hours about awesome stuff about their new phones, but I don’t want to bore you with too much technical details.

Oh, and before I forget – all the Z3 devices, not just Xperia Z3 – can also record your screen. I need to confirm though if this feature can also record internal audio. Such feature might come very handy for mobile game reviewers.

Speaking of games, the new Xperia Z3 (and also the Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet compact) is Playstation 4 Remote Play compatible. This means that you can stream your favorite Playstation 4 games like DriveClub and Destiny directly to your smartphone. Take a look at the video demo below for your enjoyment. Xperia Z3 Compact, It’s Powerful in a Tiny Package

Don’t mess with Z3’s smaller sibling. Yes, it may be smaller but it isn’t significantly different than the Z3. In fact, Z3 Compact is only less “endowed” in the following areas: RAM and build. It has the same camera sensor and same display technology.

Xperia Z3 Compact has a 4.6″ HD Triluminos LED with X-Reality technology. It’s the same screen and technology on the Z3, but Z3 Compact is just smaller.

The Z3 Compact only has 2 gb RAM (vs 3 gb RAM of Z3), but has the same 2.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor. It also has the same GPU – Adreno 330 – which is definitely a beast when it comes to rendering resource-heavy games like Modern Combat 5, NBA 2K14 and Asphalt 8.

Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

Sony learned a lot from the previous iterations of their Z-Tablet lineups – smaller tablets sell better than bigger ones. Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is a pure testament of that learning. In fact, while the rave is on Z3 and Z3 Compact, I am more interested to get my hands on and own this device.

It’s perfect for people on the go, and ensures unparalleled performance just like the Z3 and Z3 Compact. Oh, and as you may have read a while back, it’s also water and dust proof.

Imagine this: you can RemotePlay your Playstation 4 on this device… underwater. I just hope though that it won’t lose connection with the PS4. I literally cannot wait to try this out soon!

One of the glaring differences is the absence of G Lens, highly-capable camera sensor and BIONZ. I find this highly acceptable since taking pictures with tablets make people look like dorks. But seriously – while this is a decision to bring the prices lower (effectively making this a “necessary sacrifice”), I thought that it would have been better had they also included the amazing camera specs found on Z3 and Z3 compact.

Sony is Ready for Christmas

The launch, which happened last October 15, was also a high time for Sony to launch their other products – audio, imaging and accessories. They also launched 2 entry-level Xperia Devices – Xperia E3 and Xperia M2 Aqua, priced at PhP10,990 and PhP16,490 respectively.

Sony also launched wireless speakers with NFC compatibility; Smartband Talk, a wearable band that monitors Lifelog activities and allows users to talk and hear callers; and the highly anticipated Smartwatch 3, an Android Wear powered smart watch, which provides updates, logs and access to a wide range of Wear applicatiaons.

What can you say about these new products by Sony? I, for one, am very excited with the line-up! Stay tuned for our unboxing and review of Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact soon!
