RØDE has released RØDECaster Video 1.4, a free firmware update that changes what its all-in-one video consoles can do. The headline feature is 4K Capture Mode, which turns the RØDECaster Video, RØDECaster Video S, and RØDECaster Video Core from switching desks into dedicated multi-camera capture and distribution hubs. Existing owners can install the update now through the RØDECaster App at no cost.
In practice, a creator can plug several cameras into the console over HDMI, send each feed out as its own NDI stream, and record every source as a separate 4K file for the edit. RØDE describes 4K Capture Mode as the most requested feature from the RØDECaster Video community.
What RØDECaster Video 1.4 Adds
- 4K Capture Mode turns the console into a UHD (3840×2160) capture and distribution system. Each unit takes in multiple UHD30 camera feeds over HDMI, four on the RØDECaster Video and three on the Video S and Video Core, then sends each one out as its own NDI stream, ready for OBS, eCamm Live, or any NDI-enabled system on the network.
- 4K ISO recording writes every UHD source as an isolated track straight to an external SSD in H.264 or H.265.
- Full HD Capture Mode is a third mode for productions that need a steady 1080p60 across several feeds.
- The full RØDE audio mixer runs in both capture modes, and each NDI output can carry its own custom mix.
- Switching, scene arrangement, keying, and media options are reduced in the capture modes. They remain fully available in the default FHD Switching Mode.
RØDECaster Sync Now Covers the Whole Video Family
RØDECaster Sync, introduced with the Video Core earlier this year, now works with the RØDECaster Video and the Video S. One USB-C cable links a console to a RØDECaster Pro II or Duo, and the two devices operate as a single studio. The audio interface’s faders, mute and listen buttons, SMART pads, and touchscreen can control video and audio at once, a new Video SMART Pad type puts switching, scenes, media, overlays, and auto-switching under one button, and both units share a nine-channel mixer drawn from any input on either device. Recordings land on the console’s drive, so audio and video stay together.
The update also adds OTIO timeline export for Adobe Premiere Pro, which joins the DaVinci Resolve EDL export from version 1.3, plus audio support for compatible USB webcams and keyboard shortcuts for the Scene Builder in the RØDECaster App.
What It Means for Filipino Creators
Multi-camera podcast and livestream setups usually call for a switcher, capture cards, and a separate recorder. RØDECaster Video 1.4 folds much of that into hardware owners already have, and it costs them nothing extra.
“When we launched the RØDECaster Video, we set out to make professional production radically more accessible, and we’re not done,” said RØDE CEO James Hocking. “With 1.4, a single free update turns these consoles into a full 4K capture and distribution system and brings RØDECaster Sync to the entire family.”
RØDE’s creator gear is widely sold in the Philippines. Henry’s Camera Photo lists the RØDECaster Video at PhP72,000 as of writing, with the Video S and Video Core below it in the range. It is the same ecosystem we looked at with the RØDE Wireless Micro, which we reviewed last year.
