Fujifilm Philippines announced their new line of X series camera, the X-E1 and the X-F1 last October 25, 2012 at 55 Events Place.

When Fujifilm launched these new cameras, the thought of the company’s extensive research, development and marketing initiatives came to me. Undoubtedly, the X-E1 and the X-F1 were aimed for a niche that traverses baby boomers to the Generation Ys. The
cameras’ stylish vibe and level of sophistication can easily attract both young and old.

Bold, Stylish and Sophisticated: thinking of these words that encapsulate the magnanimity of the features of these cameras was not easy. At this point, let me talk about the details.

X-E1: Premium Quality in Stylish Body

Fujifilm X-E1The X-E1 isn’t your typical interchangeable camera with lens system. Its lightweight, compact body is packed with a custom sensor, the X-Trans CMOS (APS-C 16M). According to Christian Jamolod, Fujifilm Division Manager for Digital Camera, said this sensor were custom-made for Fujifilm.

“This large sensor is responsible for creating a beautiful “bokeh” effect and for capturing unfiltered light from the lens and produce unprecedented resolution.”

Simply put, this sensor will definitely help you achieve your desired photos.

Its electronic viewfinder is truly majestic. I had a chance to try it during the event and I was amazed with how Fujifilm made the viewfinder distortion-free. I was like looking through a viewfinder without the feeling or perception of using a viewfinder. It was unrealistically comfortable and natural. I don’t want to say any highfalutin tech jargons, but you’ll see what I mean when you get try one.

Fujifilm X-E1

If you’re into producing film-simulated pictures – ala Instagram – you will not get disappointed with the X-E1. This camera has 10 filters out of the box:

  • Velvia: captures vivid reds, blues and greens with extremely high level of color saturation; expect your shot to be wildy saturated without losing quality and reality.
  • PRO Neg.Std: produce shots with extremely soft tones.
  • PRO Neg.Hi: bring out subtle color contrasts even in pale lights.
  • Provia: reproduce true-to-scene natural color quality.
  • Astia: capture natural skin graduations and brilliant color tonality. Best for shooting models and bikini-clad beauties.
  • Monochrome (4 modes): produce rich and dramatic black and white shots.
  • Sepia: the ever-loved film that highlights expression and warm tones.

Fujifilm X-E1

Perhaps, the crowning glory of this camera is its interchangeable lens system. Its wide array of software and sensor features are mere tools to enhance your shots; but what makes your shots different and perfectly illuminated based on the expression you wish to
convey is the XF lens. Fujifilm has invested a lot of time and effort to produce a proprietary lens lineup for the X Series – the interchangeable Fujinon XF lens. Lens available are the following:

  • XF18mmF2 R (pancake lens)
  • XF35mmF1.4 R
  • XF60mmF2.4 R Macro
  • XF14mmF2.8 R
  • XF18-55mmF28-4 R LM OIS

Don’t fret though if you already own M-mount lens as Fujifilm has developed an M Mount Adapter for X-E1.

With recommended price of PhP64,950 (w/ kit lens), the X-E1 is, without any shadow of doubt, a camera that you would not mind using anywhere and anytime.

X-F1: Point-and-Shoot Camera, Reinvented for Hipsters

I see the X-F1 as a reinvented premium point-and-shoot camera. As Fujifilm described it, “it’s designed for style, ease of use, and effortless operation.” I wouldn’t mind repeating that anytime.

Fujifilm X-F1The camera is very light; and its overall design is reminiscent of a genuine leather wallet and an expensive looking point and shoot camera, smacked together. Its stylish configurations – portable, standby and shooting mode – consistently make the camera look very appealing and sleek.

Unlike the X-E1, you cannot change the lens of the X-F1. Its Fujinon f/1.8 lens boasts a fast maximum aperture and a slim profile that would be virtually impossible with conventional lens designs. This is the very reason why its lens can fit inside its body even
at portable and standby mode. You will definitely get surprised when you put the camera in shooting mode, as its lens protrude from its body. And by the way, the 25-100mm lens of X-F1 has a zoom ring, which provides direct manual controls, keeping the zoom action very smooth. This is so perfect if you wish to add drama to your videos.

Fujifilm X-F1

As for the sensor, this camera has a large 12M 2/3-inch EXR CMOS Sensor. It can easily adapt to ensure high quality images, whatever the situation. A non-Photoshopped picture of a street in low-light environment was shown during the event. The picture has super low
noise and the light captured were so real, somewhat life-like.

If you’re into capturing videos and do some unboxing videos like I do, you will definitely love the X-F1. It has ‘Movie Scene recognition’ feature that combines Face Tracking autofocus, producing crisp, colorful HD movies with impressive stereo sound. I was so geeking out when I tried this out during the event.

6 advanced filters are also available out of the box; ready to feed your hipster vibe.

  • Pop color
  • Toy Camera
  • Miniature
  • High-Key
  • Partial Color (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple)
  • Dynamic Tone (HDR)

With recommended price of PhP21,500, the X-F1 is definitely one big hell of a premium point-and-shoot camera. As a matter of fact, I wanted to refrain myself from writing that this camera is a point-and-shoot camera.
