Infinix is set to introduce the Infinix GT 30 Pro on June 22 with an all-day 120 fps system. Ahead of its official launch, the GT 30 Pro was announced to be the official tournament phone of MPL Philippines Season 16.

We were given a chance to check out the device before its debut in the Philippines. We’ve had the latest gaming phone from Infinix for a little than a week, but here are our initial impressions on a device that is said to be built to keep winning.

Hands-on Experience
At the core of the Infinix GT 30 Pro are gaming features like the capacitive GT Trigger and 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED panel. However, before you even open the device, the back catches the eye with a very gamer-looking metallic design.

We received the Shadow Ash color option, which looks quite impressive. I’m not the biggest fan of the tereotypical gamer design, but I was quite amazed by the seeming depth and layers of the back panels.
In a time where phones have a solid color with some accents, the GT 30 Pro stands out with the sheer amount of different textures and designs of the flat panel. There’s the angular touch of the outer rim of the back, which frames the main panel. The panel features dotted designs, indents that mimic screws, lines that look like the flat interior cables of phones, and other angular accents here and there.
Even the branding is quite subtle on the Infinix GT 30 Pro. You find this on the bottom third of the back panel, but tucked away in one of the angular bits.

The device has four angular slits that form a diamond in the center of the device which have LEDs tucked in them for the Mechincal Light Waves. This can be used to tell you when there are notifications, calls, or when you’re starting a game. Moreover, it can also work with the melody of songs you’re listening to.

One thing I didn’t quite enjoy, though, was the two-tiered camera bump on the rectangular island on the upper left. Thankfully, it isn’t as big as some other camera modules in the market today. I’ve seen larger ones that house a dual camera setup.

The front of the device is the previously mentioned 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED panel, which measures in at 6.78 inches. This is all but average in today’s market, and I really can’t complain as you really want more real estate to work with with a gaming phone.

All in all, the Infinix GT 30 Pro feels great in the hands with its flat metallic body. On the right are its volume rockers, power button, and the GT Trigger, which are at the top and bottom of the other physical buttons when held vertically. These become easily accessible extra buttons when held in landscape. But I’ll get to that later.

Under the hood is the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultimate gaming chipset and cooled by Infinix’s own 3D Vapor Cloud Chamber Cooling (3DVCC) system. The system combines a 3D vapor chamber with conductive graphite to run across the entire device.
The variant we received has 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, which is the top-specced configuration of the GT 30 Pro.
It also boasts a 5500mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging. Based on my initial testing, the battery can last a while on basic gaming and everyday use. I have yet to fully test its durability when it comes to longer gaming sessions, though.
Camera
In the camera department, the Infinix GT 30 Pro features a dual rear camera setup with a 108MP main and an 8MP ultrawide lens. As far as camera lenses go, this is the best case scenario for me.
Sure, the quality, at least on paper, should be drastically different, but at least both offer you something when taking photos.
Based on my testing, the cameras, especially the main camera, are quite formidable and more than capable.
The front snapper is a 13MP camera and is pretty decent. I think it’s enough to take selfies for social media, but it’s quite surprising as its predecessor had a 32MP front snapper.

Gaming Experience
Of course, how can I forget about gaming? It is said to deliver 120 fps across multiple titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, HONOR of Kings, and Call of Duty Mobile. I may not have had the time to try it on all these titles just yet, but I was able to enjoy and experience it on PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
This, coupled with the higher resolution of the display and the GT Trigger, makes gaming such a joy on the GT 30 Pro. The capacitive GT Trigger can be easily remappable and toggled on and off via the Settings or on X Boost when you’re game is open. The latter, I found very convenient as it also included options like adjusting the performance and brightness.

I was initially skeptical of the GT Trigger, but upon trying it, I may just look for buttons in my mobile games now. I mapped these to my auto attack and first skill in Mobile Legends and shoot and reload in PUBG Mobile, and it makes gaming so much easier for me.
Of course, I’ll get deeper into my testing experience in another article, like testing the 120 fps and tweaking and tuning the GT Trigger depending on the game.
Initial Thoughts
Based on my initial time with the Infinix GT 30 Pro, it is already a pretty impressive and interesting device. Its hardware, specifically the upgraded display and coupled with the GT Trigger, is clearly selected for gamers in mind. Let’s not forget the large battery and unique design.

However, as of writing this, its price in the Philippines has yet to be revealed, and this ought to play a larger role in to whether the device is worth it. If it stays near the PHP 15,999 price tag the Infinix GT 20 Pro launched with, I think we’re looking at quite a contender, especially for those looking for a gaming device.
Keep in mind that this is just my initial experience with the Infinix GT 30 Pro. We plan to release a full feature article later this month. Stay tuned for that!
