XPENG Secures Over USD 900 Million For Robotics Business Ahead Of Philippine Launch

XPENG has secured over USD 900 million for its robotics division in a funding round led by IDG Capital, with contributions from Gaorong Ventures and strategic backing from Tencent and Alibaba. This funding values the division at over USD 6.3 billion, marking the largest single-round private capital raise in China’s embodied AI sector and highlighting the company’s enhanced investment in AI applications.

XPENG Secures Over USD 900 Million For Robotics Business

XPENG will introduce its AI mobility solutions in the Philippines in September with the XPENG X9 intelligent seven-seater and XPENG L03 SUV coupé. This investment primarily targets the robotics sector but highlights the comprehensive AI technology ecosystem that underpins its vehicles. Beyond electric vehicles, XPENG is developing AI technologies applicable to intelligent vehicles, humanoid robots, aerial mobility, and smart manufacturing, encompassing proprietary AI chips, intelligent driving systems, computing infrastructure, and Physical AI models.

Physical AI is a technology allowing machines, such as vehicles and robots, to understand their environment and interact with users. In the Philippines, drivers will experience this through the X9 and L03 models. Recent investments will enhance hardware, software, and AI model development, generate real-world data, and support mass production and global expansion for XPENG’s robotics division. 

The company’s robotics program features IRON, a next-generation humanoid robot designed for versatility in human-centric environments. It boasts 76 degrees of freedom in its body and 21 in each hand for human-like dexterity. Powered by three of the company’s Turing AI chips, IRON achieves up to 2,250 trillion operations per second, enabling complex tasks to be executed with reduced remote dependency. The robot leverages XPENG’s manufacturing expertise from its electric-vehicle business and aims to enter mass production by the end of 2026, with initial roles in XPENG stores and campuses, followed by launches in China and international markets in 2027.

The company will retain controlling ownership of its robotics business following the completion of the financing round. The business will also continue to be consolidated into the Group’s financial statements.

As the Chinese company enters the Philippine market, the X9 and L03 will serve as the first local expressions of this broader technology ecosystem. Their introduction will allow Filipino motorists to experience how the company is applying AI not only as an in-vehicle feature, but as a core technology designed to help machines understand, adapt, and respond to people and the world around them.
