TSMC now predicts the global chip market will surpass USD 1.5 trillion by 2030, a 50% increase from its previous forecast of USD 1 trillion.
TSMC: USD 1.5 Trillion Chip Market by 2030
This massive revision is driven almost entirely by the relentless demand for artificial intelligence. Company executives revealed that AI and high-performance computing are expected to capture 55% of the total market share, dwarfing traditional sectors such as smartphones (20%) and automotive applications (10%).

In response to this, TSMC is accelerating its global manufacturing footprint. The company plans to construct nine new phases of wafer fabs and advanced packaging facilities in 2026 alone.
Expansion is already visible worldwide:
- United States: Production has begun at the first Arizona fab, with a second facility slated for 2026.
- Japan & Germany: Facilities are being upgraded or constructed to meet local demand for advanced 3-nanometer and specialized chips.
TSMC’s pivot underscores a historic shift in the tech landscape, as the “AI gold rush” shows no signs of slowing.
