Leakster Digital Chat Station has shared that HUAWEI and OPPO will be among the first companies to follow Apple in using square sensors for the front cameras of their respective smartphones.

HUAWEI and OPPO – Square Front Sensors

Apple first introduced the square sensors for its selfie camera for its iPhone 17 series. The sensor size allows users to shoot in portrait and landscape without needing to rotate the device.

The leakster claims that HUAWEI and OPPO could be among the first Chinese smartphone manufacturers to follow suit and are currently testing the 1:1 sensors.

It is believed that the square sensor could be introduced as early as the nova 16 series for HUAWEI, which could come out this year. After all, it is the company’s midrange camera-focused device.

Meanwhile, OPPO is expected to debut the 1:1 sensor size for its flagship devices, as early as the Find X10 series. Digital Chat Station mentioned that OPPO could offer even more advanced implementation than Apple. How it does so, though, wasn’t clarified.

This could be the beginning of better front sensors for smartphones across the board, especially once bigger OEMs like Samsung and Google join the implementation.
