Following its recent acquisition of Red, Nikon has launched the Nikon ZR, its first-ever cinema camera. The camera integrates Red’s acclaimed codecs and color science into the familiar Nikon Z series ecosystem.

The Nikon ZR features a 24.5MP full-frame sensor and an EXPEED 7 processor, borrowing from the Z6III’s acclaimed technology. It boasts the capability to capture stunning 6K/60p video using the new 12-bit R3D NE RAW codec, a feature derived from Red’s camera systems. With a dynamic range of over 15 stops and two base ISOs (800 and 6400), the camera is designed for high-end cinematic production.

Moreover, the camera also supports Nikon’s N-RAW and Apple’s ProRes RAW, offering filmmakers versatile workflow options. A unique “Cinematic” video mode automatically applies a Red-like color grade and sets a 24p frame rate with a 180-degree shutter angle. For audio, the camera supports 32-bit float recording and Nokia’s OZO Audio.

Priced at USD 2,200 (Around PHP 125,000) for the body, the Nikon ZR is set to be released in October, making professional cinema-quality video more accessible.
