One of the most interesting things we did while in Beijing was visit the Xiaomi EV factory. Though there was a lot to see in a short amount of time, it was very educational and quite a fun experience.
Multi-Functional, All-in-One Space

The Xiaomi EV factory has a total space of 718,000 square meters and a building space of 396,000 square meters. The brand has allotted this for many purposes, including research and development, production, testing, sales, experience, and even delivery.
Most of what we saw were the production/assembly workshops, testing, and, of course, experience zones. The brand ensured visitors could see not only the finished products, which were the EVs themselves, but also the deep thought processes behind their development.

We were taken through their experience showrooms, where the brand showcased its EV development history and explained the research and facts behind different parts such as the EV’s frame, rotor design, engine, chassis, and even its operating system—the HyperOS.
Of course, all of the Xiaomi EVs were displayed in the area. The SU7, SU7 Ultra, SU7 Max, and even the YU7 were showcased, allowing visitors to see the electric vehicles up close.

The brand encourages visitors to go inside each of the EVs, so you have a closer look and feel of its interior and exterior parts. And if a purchasing decision has finally been made, the Xiaomi EV factory also houses the main flagship store. This means that visitors can purchase their EVs on the spot!
Automation in Assembly

Part of the tour included being shuttled off to the Xiaomi EV factory’s assembly workshops. The space houses six of the factory’s key processes – Stamping, Die-Casting, Bodywork, Painting, Assembly, and Battery.
It was incredible to see how the EVs were all assembled, with almost 100% automation through over 700 robots. Even transporting parts around the massive warehouses were done through these robots.

Almost every process in the assembly workshops had lasers and AI technology embedded in it to ensure accuracy and efficiency in production. These processes cross over to their research, development, and even up to testing. According to Xiaomi, they have a “total automation rate of 91%.”
At full blast, the factory can produce up to “40 Xiaomi SU7s per hour, with a new car rolling off the assembly line every 76 seconds.”
SU7 Max Ride-On Experience

The tour’s main highlight was experiencing the speed of one of Xiaomi’s EVs – the SU7 Max. As mentioned before, the EV factory also housed testing, and this includes testing its EVs’ performance in actual road conditions.
