Adobe has officially released “Project Indigo,” a new experimental camera app for iPhones, aiming to deliver a more natural, “SLR-like” photographic experience.
Developed by Adobe Labs, with contributions from former Google Pixel camera engineers, the free app focuses on advanced computational photography to improve image quality.

Project Indigo addresses common smartphone photo issues, such as over-brightening and excessive smoothing. It captures and merges up to 32 frames per shot, resulting in photos with reduced noise, better dynamic range, and preserved natural textures.

Moreover, the app offers full manual controls for shutter speed, ISO, focus, and white balance, catering to both casual and professional photographers.
The app features multi-frame super-resolution for sharper zoomed images and integrates seamlessly with Lightroom Mobile. While currently available only for iPhones (iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max and iPhone 14 onwards), an Android version is reportedly in development.

This release signals the compny’s push towards a more integrated mobile camera and editing workflow, leveraging AI and computational techniques.
