MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ Introduced with On-chip AI Capabilities

At the MediaTek Dimensity Developer Conference 2024 (MDDC 2024), the company introduced the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ as a successor to its Dimensity 9300 SoC.

The Dimensity 9300+ is built on the TSMC third-generation 4nm process and comes with AI capabilities.

The new Plus chipset brings LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) and NeuroPilot LORA Fusion 2.0 for text, imaging, and more AI features. Moreover, it has on-device NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration that allows it to support LLMs (Large Language Models) like Google Gemini Nano, Meta Llama 2 and 3, Alibaba Cloud Qwen, and Baichuan AI, to name a few.

The Dimensity 9300+ also has an improved APU (AI Processing Unit) 790 engine which is said to offer up to a 10% boost in performance to its non-plus sibling.

The Plus variant carries over the all-big core design with:

  • 1 x Cortex-X4 prime core running at up to 3.4GHz
  • 3 x Cortex-X4 performance cores at up to 2.85GHz
  • 4 x Cortex-A720-based efficiency cores at up to 2.0GHz

The latest flagship chipset supports up to LPDDR5T RAM and up to 4.0 storage.

A: It is equipped with the 12-core ARM Immortalis G720 MC12GPU with a second-generation hardware raytracing engine and adaptive gaming technology.

A: The new chipset has an Imagiq 990 ISP. It offers 18-bit RAW processing and offers an AI Semantic Analysis Video Engine. Among the features of the latter include a 16-scene segmentation with enhanced colors, increased brightness, reduced noise, and more.

A: It can support displays of up to WQHD at 180Hz refresh rate or 4K resolution at 120Hz refresh rate. It also allows foldable support with dual active displays and brings anti-burn-in technology for AMOLED displays. These are all  thanks to the MediaTEk MiraVision 990 with AI-Display.

Q: What kind of connectivity does the Dimensity 9300+ support?

A: The chipset has MediaTek Xtra Range 2.0 technology that makes connections reach up to 4.5 further indoors via the 5GHz band. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 with up to 6.5Gbps and a sub-6GHz 5G connection thanks to the 4CC-CA Sub-6GHz capable 5G R16 modem. Moreover, the new SoC supports Bluetooth 5.4 conenctivity.

A: vivo has confirmed that it will release the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+-powered vivo X100s and X100s Pro in China on May 13. Moreover, iQOO has also revealed that the iQOO Neo9S Pro and iQOO Pad2 Pro will debut later this month and will be powered by the new SoC.
