Smart Fastest Median Download Speeds in PH
Smart Communications sustained its lead in mobile internet speeds, delivering the fastest median download speed among mobile networks in the Philippines in the fourth quarter of 2023.
This is according to Ookla, the global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications, data, and analysis, in its latest Speedtest Intelligence report.
In the report, Smart posted a median download speed of 37.64 Megabits per second (Mbps) in Q4 2023 based on tests taken using Speedtest. Smart’s speed is significantly faster than its closest competitor Globe Telecom, which registered a median download speed of 26.44 Mbps. The third major telco DITO Telecommunity landed farther behind with 19.74 Mbps.
Dominating across metrics
Aside from median download speed, Smart also bested the competition across other metrics like median upload speed and latency. Smart logged a median upload speed of 8.11 Mbps and a latency of 26 milliseconds (ms).
In comparison, Globe scored a median upload speed of 7.80 Mbps and latency of 39 ms. DITO posted slower speeds with 5.47 Mbps median upload and 58 ms latency.
What faster speeds mean for customers
With superior speeds, Smart subscribers get to enjoy faster downloads and uploads, more seamless streaming and gaming, and overall better connectivity while on the go.
Smart’s faster network empowers its mobile customers to be more productive as they can access files, emails, and work tools without much delay. Students can also research online and submit requirements on time.
Leisure activities like streaming movies and playing mobile games are also more enjoyable with Smart’s speeds. Videos load faster, while gaming is more responsive. Apart from entertainment, Smart users can also easily connect with friends and family online.
Behind Smart’s Top Speeds
Smart has been able to sustain its lead in mobile internet speeds thanks to the continuous network expansion and improvements by its parent company PLDT.
As the country’s largest integrated telco, PLDT’s fiber infrastructure provides the backbone for Smart’s mobile network. PLDT’s fiber network reached over 1.1 million kilometers nationwide as of end-September 2023.
The synergies between the two companies allow Smart to provide reliable and fast data connectivity to 97% of the population using 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G technologies.
Moving forward, Smart is boosting its 5G deployment and coverage to bring even faster speeds and lower latency. Smart fired up 5G sites across Metro Manila as well as major urban and key tourist destinations nationwide.
As Ookla’s latest report shows, Smart continues to be ahead in delivering the best mobile internet experience to Filipinos. With its parent PLDT, Smart is committed to improving mobile speeds and coverage to support more Filipino homes and businesses.
