OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G Review

I have been using the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G for a few weeks now. I have high praises for this phone, but like other devices, it isn’t perfect and there are things that I wish OPPO could have done differently. This review will explore those things, and we hope that this help you in your discernment process whether you’re going to buy this or not.

Striking Design and Stunning Display

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G leaves a lasting impression with its striking design. The glossy color variant, rigged by a larger camera module and sleek aesthetics, gives it a premium feel. The phone also features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, which is definitely a must-have on smartphones that the same pricepoint.

The 3D curved screen is a visual delight, boasting an impressive 93.9% screen-to-body ratio. This, combined with the phone’s slim and lightweight profile of under 200 grams and 8.28mm thickness, ensures a comfortable grip and enhanced portability.

Upgrading the display size, along with improvements in resolution and brightness, has resulted in an immersive visual experience. The display can change to 45, 60, 90, and 120Hz, depending on the applications and UI being used. This feature gives the display smooth visuals with efficient battery management.

Unfortunately, because the Reno10 Pro+ 5G uses LTPS display, it isn’t as power efficient than an LTPO found on devices like the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Power and Performance: Snapdragon Dominance

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G pakcs a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This strategic choice not only guarantees robust performance at a reasonable price point but also adds to the phone’s overall premium appeal.

Benchmark results speak volumes about the Reno10 Pro+ 5G’s capabilities, standing tall even against newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets. The device’s cooling system deserves applause, as it keeps temperatures in check during intense gaming sessions, ensuring consistently smooth performance.

I performed both synthetic and actual gameplay benchmarks to see two facets of performance of the Reno10 Pro+ 5G. In fact, I compared the performance of the latter to the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Galaxy S22 Ultra using popular benchmarking apps. I encourage you to replicate our test results if you have either one of the aforementioned products.

It is obvious that the Galaxy S23 Ultra leads the pack, but the Reno10 Pro+ is powerful enough to compete against it. The price difference also says it all: a 256GB Galaxy S23 Ultra costs PhP81,990 while the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G costs PhP39,999. If you’re after performance, the “discount” you get from the Reno10 Pro+ 5G undercuts the Galaxy S23 Ultra by a lot.

However, (yes you probably saw this coming), there are more devices that we can easily compare the Reno10 Pro+ to that are either cheaper or just at par of its price. A quick search on Lazada, for instance, will show that there are fairly more affordable smartphones than the Reno10 Pro+ 5G like the POCO F5 Pro. Again, if performance is your top reason for getting a Reno10 Pro+ 5G, you may want to re-evaluate your choices.

In terms of actual gaming peformance, I played games like Farlight 84, Diablo Immortal, Mobile Legends, and Honkai Star Rail on the Reno10 Pro+. Performance is decent and flagship material, as expected.

Photography, the reason why you should get this!

OPPO has gone the extra mile to revolutionize the camera package of the Reno10 Pro+ 5G. Equipped with three lenses at the back and one on the front, this smartphone delivers a photography experience that rivals dedicated cameras.

The 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera, 64MP Telephoto Portrait Camera, and 8MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera work in harmony to produce images with unparalleled clarity, color accuracy, and lighting. The device’s prowess in capturing a wide range of light and shadow exposures while maintaining true-to-life colors is commendable.

OPPO has also fine-tuned the Portrait Photography features, elevating the results even in low-light conditions. The Reno10 Pro+ 5G’s portrait shots boast a natural-looking bokeh effect and impressive focus, making for picture-perfect memories.

If you are after photography than game performance, the Reno10 Pro+ 5G is an easy recommendation. I have multiple shots on the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the Reno10 Pro+ 5G, and the latter would emerge as the clear winner in terms of clarity, sharpness, contrast and color. I will have another video that shows the differences of the shots so you can be a better judge of the phones’ photography performance.

There are missing features that can be found on more expensive devices like telephoto capabilities and 8K video shooting capabilities. However, those features address a different set of needs by content creators, which the Reno10 Pro+ is not trying to force-fit itself into. Yes, it may be used by professional photographers. but it isn’t something that casual photographers – like myself – will not be overwhelmed to use and appreciate. Shooting portrait shots on this phone is undoubtedly at par compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra and also to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. That says a lot about how OPPO managed to bring premium photography features to a device that would cost an arm and a leg.

If you take a look at this standpoint, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G is not an overpriced product. Its photo features alone compensate for its perceived “overpriced” SRP. Yes, OPPO could have priced it a little lower, but its camera features alone give it the phone a premium bump overall.

Feature-Rich and Intelligent

The Reno10 Pro+ 5G comes loaded with an array of features, some of which were previously reserved for OPPO’s Find X series. The Infrared Remote-Control, Multi-screen connection, and enhanced security measures add practicality and versatility to the phone.

The Remote-Control feature is a fine addition as it’s something that is seldom found on smartphones nowadays. Even Samsung ditched the IR blaster functionality on their latest flagship smartphones. Multi-screen connection is handy, on the other hand, albeit limited to Windows PCs at the time of writing this review.

The Auto-Pixelate feature, automatically safeguarding sensitive information in screenshots, is a thoughtful addition that underscores OPPO’s commitment to user privacy. It is a good addition, and it takes little to no effort of fine tuning the result.

A Reasonable Investment

Considering the wealth of features it offers, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G’s price tag of PhP39,999 is indeed reasonable. From the powerhouse processor and cutting-edge camera capabilities to the multitude of exclusive features, this smartphone holds its own in the flagship segment.

If you’re a Reno series enthusiast or on the lookout for a high-quality device without breaking the bank, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G deserves your serious consideration. It is a flagship marvel, setting new benchmarks in the smartphone industry and undoubtedly a smart investment for tech aficionados like myself.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G is definitely a keeper.
